Of The Moment 18.05.18

I’m usually either reading, listening or watching something in my free time. So, I thought I’d begin to share the books, podcasts and TV shows that I’m into on the blog.

Little leaders

I’m currently reading two nonfiction books – Educated by Tara Westover and a children’s book called Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History by Vashti Harrison. I rarely read books aimed at children but I was interested in reading Little Leaders after watching Vashti Harrison’s interview with Trevor Noah. It covers stories about inspiring black women and it has beautiful illustrations in the book.

Educated by Tara Westover is the story of Tara and her upbringing in rural Idaho. Her father didn’t believe in sending his children through the public school education system and didn’t use hospitals because he’s anti-government. It’s about her search for education and how that takes her to study at Harvard and Cambridge.

I’ve been watching Desperate Housewives on Now Tv. It’s about four female friends and their secrets and struggles. It’s full of mystery which is why I like it. Although it aired from 2004 till 2012, I only started watching it a week ago. I tried watching it years ago on TV in Nigeria but I couldn’t follow the story because I never started from the first episode.

I’ve also loved Dynasty on Netflix. It’s a story about two wealthy families- the Carringtons and the Colbys and the secrets and feuds between both families. I’ve watched all the available episodes and I’m waiting for Season 2.

Podcasts and Music

As the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is tomorrow, there has been a lot of discussions about weddings in general in the media. BBC’s woman hour discussed the cost of being a wedding guest on one of their episodes. The guest on the show said she buys a new dress for every wedding she attends. They discussed the costs of travel to weddings, the overnight stay and gifts for the couple. These costs slowly build up and it helps to have a budget.

I’ve also been listening to While I’m Waiting by Travis Greene and the soundtrack from The Greatest Showman.

Let me know if you have any book, TV or podcast recommendations in the comments.
